First introductions
The event I was very excited about for a few weeks has finally come. We had the first “picnic” with my fellow exchange students yesterday. We met up in the office of the agency we’re going with and because there was quite a lot of us, it wasn’t too easy for everyone to fit in the relatively small room (and in the group photo as well). Each person who came brought some food (mostly home-made) and I don’t think any of us expected that much, so we were not able to eat it all. We heard some more information about the program and tips on how to get the most of it, we played games to get to know each other and we ate (but we still didn’t manage to finish everything we took in).
The picnic was organized in order to acquaint all of us, future exchange students with each other and although it was almost impossible to talk to every single person there, I tried to talk to as many of them as possible and I can say that everyone who has introduced themselves to me was very friendly and genuinely fun to talk to. I didn’t know almost anyone of those people before I entered the room, but I still felt really comfortable around them. It’s such an amazing feeling to be surrounded by people who know exactly what you’re going through and how you feel, who understand you more than anyone else because they are going through the same thing at the same time, so you can be in it together and support each other. We talked for hours but it felt like only a little while.
I came back home at night with a great feeling that I actually belong somewhere.
