My journey

It all started when my parents asked their kids if we want them to spent their money on a car for our 18th birthday or if we’d rather study abroad… I made a choice and now I’m here, going on an adventure. What I’ve learned from life is that everything is much more fun when you have someone to share it with though. So I created this blog as a way of sharing my experiences with you. Welcome and enjoy!

Where exactly am I spending the year?

I was placed into a host family living in Doninphan which is a village located alongside U.S. Highway 281 in Hall County, in the south-central part of Nebraska and just four miles south of Interstate 80. While the town in general is flat, it is told that visitors and newcomers to the area often comment on the spectacular sunsets along with the natural beauty of the Platte River, which is located just two miles away. Doniphan is a part of the Grand Island, Nebraska Micropolitan Statistical Area and approximately has about 1,000 inhabitants. Although the village is quite small it is closely located to larger cities. With Grand Island located just 11 miles to the north, and Hastings only 14 miles to the south, Doniphan residents are just a short drive away from most any goods and services they can’t find right in their town. Doniphan itself is told to be remarkably self-sufficient. Children attend the only school local to the Doniphan Region – Doniphan Trumbull Public School. It teaches around 150 students in grades 7–12 and I’m more than happy to become one of those and join them in living in Doniphan for the school year of 2022-23.
